EALE/SOLE Conference – Special session on “Labor Shortages and Mismatch”
The Ing. Rodolfo Debenedetti Foundation is proud to announce a special session of the EALE/SOLE 2025 conference dedicated to labor shortages and the “mismatch” between labor supply and demand.
The 2025 World Labor Conference, organized by the Society of Labor Economists (SOLE) in collaboration with EALE, will take place from June 27 to June 29, 2025, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Topics Covered
The special session will focus on the significant labor shortages that many OECD countries are experiencing, despite high non-employment rates among young people. Employers face increasing difficulties in filling vacancies across various sectors and occupations requiring different levels of education and specialization.
A central issue is the growing mismatch between labor supply and demand, often highlighted as a significant concern in institutional contexts and by employers’ associations. Available indicators, such as those provided by the OECD, mainly focus on the discrepancy between the skill profiles demanded and those available, while rarely incorporating wage data.
Education represents a key dimension of mismatch, whose impact must be carefully assessed.
