The XXV European Conference of the Ing. Rodolfo Debenedetti Foundation will focus on the topic ‘Superstar Workers and Firms’.

The morning session will be opened with an introductory lecture by Jan Eeckhout (Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona), an expert in the study of the macroeconomic consequences of market power. In his speech, he will talk about the salaries of top managers and how these are influenced by the market power of companies.

The first report will focus on ‘Stellar Wages’ and will be coordinated by Jan van Ours (Erasmus University Rotterdam). The study will focus on professionals who receive stellar salaries, belonging to the top 0.1% of the income distribution. We will look at the determinants of these wages, their evolution over time and how they affect the distribution of income.

The second report will focus on ‘Superstar Workers and Firms’ and will be coordinated by Emanuela Ciapanna (Bank of Italy). It will study the evolution of markup in Europe and the role of superstar firms in driving its dynamics. More specifically, the report will analyze the features and dynamics of markups in 4 major EU economies and compare them to the US.

The conference will conclude with a panel discussion, moderated by Tito Boeri (RDB Foundation and Bocconi University), which will be attended by Chiara Gribaudo (Vice President of the Labor Commission, House of the Representatives), Mario Padula (University of Venice “Ca’ Foscari), and Stefano Franchi (Federmeccanica General Manager).

The event will be held in English, with simultaneous translation into Italian. You can attend in person after registering at this link, or follow the proceedings in live streaming on the Foundation’s website.
