racCONTAMI 2013

Second Census of Homeless People in Milan

11-12-13 March 2013

Fondazione Ing. Rodolfo Debenedetti, Università Bocconi and the Municipality of Milan are organizing “racCONTAMI”, the second census of homeless people in Milan.
The census will be held in March 2013, and it will provide an update of the results of the first homeless census conducted in Milan in 2008.
The project aims at collecting information about the characteristics, the living status and the needs of homeless people. It will also show the dynamics leading to this extreme form of poverty and social exclusion. This information is essential to analyze the effectiveness of the policies implemented in Milan in the last years, to adapt the supply of services for homeless people and to define innovative interventions which could produce log-term effects and reduce homelessness rate.
The census will cover sheltered and unsheltered homeless, and it is scheduled on the following days:
Monday, 11th of March 2013, from 10.00 pm to 2.00 am;
Tuesday, 12th of March 2013, from 7.00 pm to midnight;
Wednesday, 13th of March 2013, from 7.00 pm to midnight.
Sheltered and unsheltered homeless people will be counted during the first night. Rough sleepers will be interviewed during the second night, and sheltered people during the third night.
We invite those who are interested in volunteering for the 2013 homeless census to fill the online form by the 4th of March.
We ask all volunteers to attend the training offered prior to the count. Those willing to take part to the project will be contacted after the closure of the registration for more information regarding the training and count.
