This volume, which includes contributions from first-rate international scholars in the field, discusses the role that unions are likely to play in the changed economic environment of the new century. Questions discussed include: What will unions look like in the years to come? Which kind of interest groups will they represent? How important will the brosder political role of unions be? To what extent do unions care about future generations?
The volume consistes of two reports, each written by a group of economists, political scientists, and sociologists, working in different countries. They are the result of coorinated efforts by some of the most authoritative scholars of the field to look ahead, develop scenarios for the future, and compare them. The two studies were originally prepared for the II European conference of the Fondazione Rodolfo Debenedetti, which was held in Naples in June 2000.
The Italian version of this book, "Il ruolo del sindacato in Europa", edited by Università Bocconi Editore in 2002, is also available.
