Tito Boeri is among the 13 members of the working group "A Sustainable Project for Europe" instituted by the President of the EU Commission Romano Prodi. The group will discuss and assess the future of the European social model. It will try to balance the Continent´s distinctive values with the new needs, demands and expectations arising from national societies. Social protection and welfare systems, widely regarded as cornerstones of European contemporary civilizations, will be high on the discussion agenda. In fact, the group will study how to safeguard and reform redistribution policies aimed at fighting poverty and reduce inequality. The group´s conclusions will be delivered in a special report in the fall of 2003.The group is headed by Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former French finance minister, and includes Dora Bakoyannis, Athens´ mayor, Hans Tietmeyer, former Bundesbank president, Lord Simon, ex BP president and former UK trade minister for trade, and the much-acclaimed José Saramago, Nobel Prize for literature, and Jürgen Habermas, philosopher and heir of the Frankfurt tradition.
