Milano (s)confinata

We are pleased to present Milano (s)confinata, a temporary cultural space devoted to the issue of severe social marginalisation, running from 18 to 25 October 2026 at Fabbrica del Vapore, Spazio Messina (Via Procaccini 4, Milan).

The initiative is conceived and curated by the Culture Working Group (Tavolo Cultura) of the City of Milan’s citywide system for promoting autonomy and preventing severe social marginalisation. Bringing together more than 40 local organisations, it offers a week of exhibitions, talks, screenings, theatre performances and workshops for all ages. It also includes a collective exhibition of photographs and installations, which builds a portrait of the city from the stories and perspectives of those living at its margins.

We will take part in the public talk “Data to Tell the Story of the Margins: Numbers and Research on Homelessness in Milan and Italy”, on Tuesday 20 October from 17:30 to 19:00. The talk will compare surveys carried out in Milan and across Italy, using data to describe homelessness and the living conditions of people sleeping rough. Other speakers include ISTAT, the University of Catania and fio.PSD. The discussion will be moderated by Monica Grassi (City of Milan).
